PROSPER MAGAZINE: DIGITAL EDITION
EDITOR'S WORDS
JUNE HAS BEEN AN IMPORTANT MONTH FOR THE PROFILE OF THE DIVERSITY AGENDA
Not only has it been Pride Month – an annual event that gives the world a chance to stand with and celebrate those within the LGBTQ+ community – but due to recent events in the US, there has been a reinvigorated conversation around racial inequality and the Black Lives Matter movement.
The theme for this edition was always going to be Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity, so it is poignant that in recent weeks we have witnessed many divisions that remain across society.
Whilst Prosper is not well placed to comment on this movement – one, that as a publishing outlet, we are also taking learnings from – it is valid to ask as a business community what our response should be.
Everyone is different. Our backgrounds, our gender, our sexual orientation, race, religion, education, illness, relationships, working history, friendship groups, culture, places visited or missed - each of these things creates something unique which businesses should embrace.
In this edition, we have asked leading figures from across the region for their views and perspectives on diversity and inclusivity and we introduce you to the first Black Lives Matter and Business Leadership Round Table organised by the Black Country Chamber of Commerce.
The event took place earlier this week with invited guests from the business community and discussions focusing on how the Chamber can help the many like-minded business leaders and professionals throughout the region to benefit from having a multi-talented, multi-ethnic, vibrant and engaged workforce.
Our strength lies in our diversity and we can only hope to become stronger when we respond to the diversity agenda and ensure that the voices of all of our communities are listened to, respected and acted upon.
